Jay Murley passed away this morning at about 8:30 AM at Scripps-Mercy Hospital. He was a Humanist, an LGBT and civil rights activist, and a self proclaimed “secular, fiscal conservative / social liberal” – but aside from all of that, and most importantly, he was my friend and many of yours. I feel lucky to have known him and thankful to have had him in my life for the comparatively short time that I had with him.

Happy Valentine’s Day, Jay. We love you and we’ll all miss you terribly.
Humanism: The Wave of The Future

Lunch and Dinner Included!

Humanism, America’s Finest Philosophy in America’s Finest City, San Diego. On the first Saturday and Sunday in February 5 join local, regional and national leaders in the FreeThought community for a fun filled and enriching weekend at the Mission Valley Resort Hotel in Sunny San Diego California.

The clarion call of the New Atheism’s rise has filled us with celebration, and has encouraged us to answer reason’s call. At this summer’s Midwest Humanist Conference, renown FreeThought activist August Berkshire has called “atheism the medicine.” August brilliantly completed the thought calling Humanism the “bedside manner.” As Humanists we realize our role and obligation as members of the human race. Atheism alone neglects our need and desire to participate in the lives of our human family.

Beyond disbelief, Secular Humanism fills us with the energy to look forward and progress ourselves to a brighter future by our own hands, unencumbered by fanciful beliefs in the supernatural.

Like a mighty wave, Humanism ushers us forward out of the depths of confusion and superstition. It has been our ethical and intellectual driving force for millennia. As it has in the past, Humanism is the exciting, evolving philosophy leading us to a brighter tomorrow. We look forward to you joining us in February for the first annual Southern California Secular Humanist Conference.
