Reflections on a Decade of PARANORMAL INVESTIGATION

featuring Benjamin Radford

Sunday, June 19th, 7 PM

Join writer and scientific paranormal investigator Benjamin Radford as he discusses the nature of “ unexplained mysteries” such as ghosts, Bigfoot, crop circles , and psychic powers. What does science say about the evidence for these topics? What is the nature of the “unexplained”? And why is there still debate about these issues? Radford will draw from case studies over a decade of personal investigations into these and dozens of other topics. Skeptics and believers alike will enjoy this interesting and informative talk. There will be plenty of time for audience Q&A.

Benjamin Radford is a research fellow for the Committee for Skeptical Inquiry, managing editor of Skeptical Inquirer science magazine and author of five books. He has written over 500 articles on various topics, including urban legends, mass hysteria, mysterious creatures, and media criticism.

Radford is a columnist for Discover News, Livescience.com and Skeptical Inquirer. He has appeared on The Discovery Channel, CNN, National Geographic Television, the Learning Channel, and the Discovery Science Channel as well as MTV. The meeting will be held at the Joyce Beers Community Center (across the street from Trader Joe’s in the Uptown Shopping Center off Washington in Hillcrest). The address is 1230 Cleveland Avenue (92103), although the Joyce Beers Community Center faces Vermont Street. It is next door to the Aladdin Restaurant.

Donation requested to help defray expenses ($5 to $10)

Jay Murley passed away this morning at about 8:30 AM at Scripps-Mercy Hospital. He was a Humanist, an LGBT and civil rights activist, and a self proclaimed “secular, fiscal conservative / social liberal” – but aside from all of that, and most importantly, he was my friend and many of yours. Sam Singleton, Atheist Evangelist, is coming to San Diego.
Come to the one man performance of Sam’s gripping show.

Written by Roger Scott Jackson, “Patriarch & Penises” is subtitled “A Comedy in Two Acts.” In the first of those acts, Brother Sam recounts his youth among “tongues-speaking, snake-handling holy rollers” and subsequent “reversion” to atheism, before wrapping up with a scorchingly satiric deconstruction of the role of God and plight of atheists in America.

In Act II, Brother Sam teaches a “Bible Class” detailing the symbolic use of penises throughout the Scriptures. The performance itself lasts a little less than two hours including a 15 minute intermission. The material and language are adult in nature.

View the trailer on youtube & purchase your tickets, on sale now, at samsingleton.com

Book Description (From Amazon):
David McAfee will have some of his books available for purchase at this event.

“This book is an attempt to compile popular and unknown arguments against the principles of the Christian canon. Christianity has become separated into many smaller sects, but retains some constant biblical tenets and divine ideas- it is these similarities that are crucial if my thesis is to be considered a ‘disproval’. Using essays and biblical analysis, I discuss some of the contradictory and controversial passages from the Hebrew Scriptures (which Christians refer to as the “Old Testament”) and the New Testament, along with modern practices, beliefs, and teachings of twenty-first century Christianity in an attempt to make known the discrepancies which have largely been ignored within the Christian Church- especially Western Society.” – David G. McAfee From the back cover: “David G. McAfee introduces his first book- an introductory look into the world of Christianity and the refutation of its key principles. Using (almost exclusively) evidence and passages from the Christian Holy Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments, David is able to establish new arguments against the validity of the Christian religion as well as reorganize and reevaluate some of the more traditional debates. Through a close-reading of the Sacred Texts and years of studying the Christian theology from a secular viewpoint, David G. McAfee is able to approach the refutation of Christianity from a reasonable and logical perspective. From contradictions in the Holy Bible, to issues in modern Christian teachings, to problems with the founding pillars of Christianity itself, Mr. McAfee- in this book- is able to successfully Disprove Christianity.”
A suggested donation of $3.00- $10.00 is requested.
